Democrat Running for State Representative

Did you know that you can donate to a candidate and get your money back?

By donating $50 to a political campaign of your choice, you can reduce your taxes or increase your refund by that same $50 (assuming you pay at least $50 in taxes). That's right: in Oregon it's a full 100% credit, not a deduction – a dollar-for-dollar credit on your tax return!

The Oregon Political Tax Credit allows a married couple to contribute up to $100  -- to a qualified political cause and receive the full amount of their contribution back.

Contributions must be dated no later than December 31st, 2009 to receive the credit on your 2009 Oregon tax return.

The Oregon Political Tax Credit literally costs you nothing.

You can use the long form or the short form. Keep your canceled check or contribution receipt. You don’t need to attach it to your state return, but do keep it for your records.

Take advantage of this great opportunity.

2008 Medford Mail Tribune Endorsed

Lynn Howe

What they said about Lynn:

Esquivel's opponent this year is Democrat Lynn Howe, a thoughtful, intelligent retiree with a 25-year background as a health-care administrator — experience that will be invaluable as lawmakers tackle health-care reform in the 2009 session.

Ordinarily we would question a newcomer's ability to know the needs of the community, but Howe has learned quickly.

She exhibits a clear grasp of the major issues facing Oregon and the Rogue Valley, from land use and transportation to education and health care. She says she would be an advocate for small- and medium-sized businesses and the education infrastructure necessary to provide them with a quality work force.

What they said about Sal Esquivel:

Esquivel seems out of touch with the biggest problems facing Medford

Speaking of the economy, Esquivel says Oregon's is stable. We don't know if that reflects misguided optimism or ignorance on his part, but we find it troubling.

Esquivel has served two moderately productive terms, but his plans for a third leave us underwhelmed.

2008 Stand for Children Endorsed Lynn Howe

Here’s what Stand said.

During his time in Salem, Representative Esquivel has consistently voted for bills that would lead to cuts to schools and tax inequality..

· He voted for a $27 million tax break for corporations in 2005, while schools faced deficits (HB2542).

· He voted to cut over $350 million in funding for public schools, health care, & public safety to give tax breaks to the wealthiest 4% of Oregonians (HB2332, HB2629).

· He voted against making developers pay part of the cost of improving school facilities in 2007 (SB1036, SB336).

Rep. Esquivel also opposed legislation that would have provided health insurance for our children through a cigarette tax (HB2967).  He was rewarded with a campaign contribution from Phillip Morris. (Source: OR Secretary of State,Orestar).

Fight Crime,  End Oregon's Meth Crisis

Lynn Howe (HD 6) & John Kroger to Hold Town Hall on addressing Oregon’s Meth Crisis

Lynn Howe, Democratic Candidate for the Oregon House (HD 6, Medford) invites you to join her, Democratic Attorney-General Candidate John Kroger, and Medford’s local law enforcement leaders for a Town Hall to discuss the Meth Crisis that is facing Oregon.

Every Year, meth costs us hundreds of millions of dollars on prisons, law enforcement, health care, and lost of work force productivity. Meth is the biggest cause of property crime and identity theft in the state. It is also the single greatest cause of serious child abuse in Oregon. Meth is one of the reasons that Oregon recently received a “D” grade on a child welfare report card. This is unacceptable.

Join us to discuss the facts about meth in our community, innovative solutions at the local level, the trends in drug crime, sensible sentencing policies, and drug treatment plans.
